This January transfer market proves to be a period of feverish speculation and possible major transfers. Several high-profile footballers are being linked with transfers out of their present teams. We examine a selection of the key figures who are poised to be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the forward in contention, it appears an important move is imminent. The 25-year-old has a deal with a substantial release clause applicable for a two-week window in early January. Recent reports suggest Manchester City look to have won the race for his signature. Former interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to other options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late bid.

M. Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to excel for Palace this season a summer move to Anfield falling through. With his deal set to run out in the close season, January is the club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, including Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. However, a January departure is considered difficult, particularly given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Welsh winger has had first-team opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Despite being the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun just a handful of Premier League games. It is understood the London outfit is open to a sale for the right price, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder might be set for a return to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. Still only twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are rumours from Spanish media that he would be prepared to take a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran Germany shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barça following the manager Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a January exit seems highly likely. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This prolific English striker has continued finding the net frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the national World Cup. But, arranging a transfer presents major hurdles. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his reported enormous salary make any agreement complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

C. Gallagher

This dynamic midfielder attracted considerable interest in the summer but remained at Atlético Madrid. Harvey Elliott

Despite excelling and being named player of the tournament at the U21 Euros last summer, the talented player has found it tough for minutes on loan at Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move will not be made permanent. Because of FIFA regulations regarding playing for two clubs in a campaign, a move back to his parent club before next summer seems to be the sole viable outcome.

K. Yildiz

This exciting Turkish forward has been in excellent form for Juventus this season. With his current deal running down, many Premier League sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. This teenager is heavily expected to complete a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle reportedly are frontrunners, but are facing strong competition from Real Madrid for a deal valued at approximately £22 million.
