The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in September and sentenced more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after "new facts" were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the custody, the judge said data from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a assembly of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.
